Funding the Future
The Scottish International Education Trust (SIET) exists to help exceptional Scots gain transformative international experiences. By providing funding for talented Scottish people at a critical stage in their lives, we can help them build knowledge, skills and perspectives to forge successful careers and be forces for good in the world.

The Scottish International Education Trust relies on the support of our donors to fund much of our work. Through their generosity, we are able to support between five and twenty young Scots in any given year. We are fortunate that our endowment funds most of our administrative costs, and so the overwhelming majority of the contributions of our donors can go directly to funding transformative educational experiences.

Throughout their history, large numbers of Scots have travelled overseas, to learn from the world, search for opportunities, and build lives. Today, we are seeking support to continue this tradition for a new generation. If you share our belief in the power of international experiences to shape the lives of exceptional Scots, we would be delighted to talk with you.

Donate to SIET
Gifts to SIET come in all shapes and sizes, and we are happy to discuss ways in which a donation, legacy or endowment can support our mission while also recognising and respecting the wishes of the donor. All gifts can be made anonymously, or in the name of the benefactor, an organisation or a loved one.
The director and trustees are available to provide further information on the trust and its work, and to discuss the details of any gift. We also have three standard pathways to giving, which are set out below.
A One-off or Monthly Donation
Donations allow us to make grants to a wide range of applicants. Typically, such donations would be combined with those of other donors and funds generated from the endowment that forms the basis of our biennial awards. These are awarded by the trustees to those applicants who show great potential for academic and professional success, but also where the board believes that the transformational opportunities presented by international education would otherwise be closed off to the applicant.
Fund One of More Grants
Our awards are typically £3,000. We have found that this amount provides a meaningful intervention and allows applicants to solve significant obstacles to the pursuit of their goals. We also know from our alumni that this amount gives them a real sense that someone believes in their work sufficiently to make a considerable investment in it - and them. Over the course of five decades, we have found that such an investment pays dividends with alumni often reaching out many years later to say how a SIET grant was a critical turning point in their lives and their careers.
Endow a Grant in Perpetuity
SIET has been providing a vehicle by which our donors can change people's lives for more than half a century. We were established by a group of Scots whose names were known around the world for one very simple purpose - to support the next generation of their compatriots in taking the journey that they, and countless thousands before them, had made out of Scotland and into the world. That need to step out and meet the world is as real now as it was fifty years ago and, with your support, we can still be helping to address it in another fifty years' time.
